If I break my internet connection, will I be able to continue downloading a movie from iTunes?

My sister is downloading a movie on my computer and it has 15 hours left to download. If I pause the download and turn off my computer (or otherwise break the internet connection), will the movie continue downloading from the same spot when iTunes is opened once again? Do you even need an internet connection to continue downloading? Thanks!
